Nuggets without Nene against Wizards

The Denver Post is reporting the Nuggets will be without Nene tonight against the Wizards. After coming off an injury of his own, Timofey Mozgov will likely start alongside Kosta Koufos in the front court. Additionally, Rudy Fernandez will attempt to play after missing the last several games due to an achilles problem. It should be noted that over the last four games Nene is averaging 17.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while playing some of the most aggressive basketball of his career with the Denver Nuggets. Nene will no doubt be sorely missed against one of the taller front lines in the NBA. Let’s just hope this is a legitimate injury and not simply a “rest day,” as even though the Wizards don’t have greatest of records, they’re still an NBA team that has a lot of talent, and one that just beat the team most consider to be the best in the league: the Oklahoma City Thunder.

I have to disagree with your logic here…Nene is playing possibly the best he has his career and you prefer that he is actually hurt and not just needing an rest day?

    • Zach

I have to agree with DJ… it’s pretty idiotic to say you “hope” Nene is injured.
I agree, the Nuggets shouldn’t write off this game. But it’s better to have a healthy and fresh Nene down the stretch, than to overexert him in an almost meaningless game against the Wizards.

Come on guys, let’s put two and two together here. Of course I don’t hope Nene is hurt, I just hope the reason he’s resting is because he’s hurt and not because he’s “tired.” My whole point was that it’s a really dumb idea to underestimate ANYBODY in the NBA. I would hate for the Nugget to do that tonight and end up losing a game they should have won.

    • SmokinNugs

His point was that he doesn’t want the Nuggets under-estimating the Wizards and thus unnecessarily resting Nene during a “garbage game.” He just pointed out Nene is playing some of his best ball ever, he doesn’t actually hope Nene is hurt. Although there’s gotta be a better way to phrase that Kalen.

Yeah. I agree this is a classic Nuggets trap game. We SHOULD win it, we just came off a big win, and everyone’s looking ahead to Saturdays reunion at Madison Square Garden.

However, I think it’s a good thing that OKC lost to Washington. You know the Nuggets noticed that, and I think that will give them the impetus to play hard and win tonight.

  • SmokinNugs

I think the TWO 7′ can hold their own and if not, we have another PF on the team whom some of you might know….

(feel free to shout Manimal at your computer screen)

The Wizards’ FLUKE SECOND win aside, if any game is going to have a lot of garbage time, this has got to be it. Now with Nene not playing, I’d put money on a sighting tonight.

  • Joey

I agree. That is very ignorant to say that you hope nene gets injured. He’s one of the best bigs in the game, and if Nene goes down the nuggets have 0 chance of a title. I think its a great idea to rest Nene for a game or 2 during the shortened season. I’d much rather that happen then his injury in 05 when he missed the whole season. It’s just the wizards. we’el be ite. I just hope we don’t try to fast forward to tomorrows game. As long as were focused and motivated we can beat anybody.

  • SmokinNugs

Oh give him a break, he doesn’t actually want Nene to be hurt he just doesn’t want us to coast into DC and get embarrassed because we think this is an “already-won.”

  • Ryan

Gonna have to agree with some others, that was worded horribly. Lets hope Nene is not injured.

  • JR15

I hope it is a rest day for him today, and that he is not seriously injured. The Wizards are woeful, and Nene needs the rest when he can get it especially for that bad foot…we know what happened to Al Harrington when he played on it.

  • Jay

Dude.. do you realize what you typed?? You would prefer an injury over a rest day? That makes NO sense. We need a fresh Nene once playoff time comes .. not vs. a poor team in the opposite conference. I must assume you had been drinking… ; )>

Better mean Faried gets some minutes. How long can Karl keep the kid off the floor. If Bird plays more than 20 minutes tonight, I’m gonna kick a curb.

  • Trevor

Karl says first 25% of season is like preseason so you never know… Maybe get Nene some rest and get K2, Moz, and god forbid the Manimal some playtime against inferior competition. Im sure we’ll see plenty of Bird and Al tonight.

ATTN: People!!! Can you please follow the link, read the article before you talk about how terrible my wording was. The injury isn’t serious, therefore Nene should be back either tomorrow against the Knicks or the following game. It’s just a scuff up, but LOOKS like the Nuggets are resting him. Do you HONESTLY think I want Nene to be seriously injured?!?! For crying out loud.

    • Jeff

I don’t see anything wrong with resting Nene against the Wizards. Of course it’s easy to say that after they won, but still. In this crammed season we don’t want that sore foot to get out of control and cripple him for the playoffs.
