In Chad Ford’s latest mock draft he has the Nuggets selecting Royce White ahead of players like Andrew Nicholson, Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones. Ford states, “Word on the street is that the Nuggets will step in and steal away White before he lands in Boston.”
White was the very first player we profiled in depth here at Roundball Mining Company as is someone we’ve consistently had ranked as a Top 3 prospect in all of our Big Boards. It appears his airplane anxiety is something he’s already starting to overcome — which is a great sign — and was really the only reason he was never ranked higher in the first place.
If the Nuggets do in fact draft White, just as I said last year with Faried, fans should be ecstatic. He’s a good kid and great fit for the team (not to mention an incredible basketball player to boot). There’s still a lot of time left before draft time rolls around so keep checking back in as we’ll have updates throughout the evening.
Kalen, I don’t think I would be “ecstatic”. I’ll go with cautiously optimistic. It could turn out to be a great pick, and I know why you think so highly of him. But White is definitely higher-risk than some of the others who should be available at 20. I know what he brings to the table (potentially), but here are some of the concerns…
1) He has medication that he sometimes takes for his anxiety disorder. But when he takes it, he says it leaves him feeling “80%-85%” physically.
2) He only shoots 50% from the FT line. Ouch!
3) He is a terrific passer (5 APG), but he also averaged 4 TO’s per game.
4) He struggles with his weight (and I would assume with being in shape) at times.
5) His personality goes a little beyond “unique” or “quirky”. Here’s a recent quote…
“Now think about when aliens come here. When aliens come here and they see me throwing a ball in a hoop, what are they going to think? They’re going to be like: ‘This dude is wasting all his time.’”
I don’t mind him being different or introspective or honest. But if he were to give up basketball in a year or two to pursue something else, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Having said all that, I still realize that he could be a steal if he reaches his potential – and if Karl figures out how to use him correctly. But he is risky.
I wouldn’t be too high on White either. One of Denver’s biggest offensive problems was their inability to shoot the ball. Another player with a questionable shooting ability isn’t what we need. I’d much rather see them pick a shooter.
Trade Wilson And Harrington And Our 2 2nd Round Picks To Boston Right After We Draft White And Pick Up Sullinger And Fab Melo!!!!
I think white is good pick since the Nuggs are deep, so he work on his shot and body without much pressure. He seems like a guy that can help our slashers.
Sullinger if he falls is the correct pick. If not Will Barton is my hope
White to Houston. Now What?
Jones III?
Perry Jones III or Sullinger? One will have to fall to 20 now. I like either of those guys. I vote jones if he falls one more spot to us…
Take Jones III!
Thank you Houston, dodged a bullet.
White went at #16 to the Rockets.

Peep this people, dude knows what he is talking about. He had the Manimal as a lock to produce based off his statistical analysis.
we have to take PJ III now right?
Yes!
Wow, Sullinger, Jones III, Q. Miller, AND Moultrie are all available to the Nugs! That’s four very high-risk/high-reward players. Wonder if they’ll go for one of them or play it safe?
Fournier??? Crap, I HATE that pick!
WHO????
Who the hell is this guy?
Who is this guy?
WHO IN GOD’S NAME?
Nicholas Tskitishvili, part 2. Say it ain’t so, Masai.
Come on now that’s not fair, Skita was a top 5 pick. This pick we can afford to take a chance with.
Great pick! We needed a shooter and he’s more athletic than Jenkins. Rudy is as good as gone now.
Very disappoiniting pick. No chandler trade so far either. This draft is leaving a bad taste in my mouth already. How do you pass on jones Sullinger and Quincy Miller?!?!
Fournier hit 27% of his 3′s – in Europe. Wow, I’m stunned. I’m trying to trust you, Masai. I’m really trying.
“There are questions over his defensive ability but that shouldnt affect some team taking him.”
Great. He will fit right in.
Watch the Celtics take Sullinger and Jones now. How much did Boston give you to leave them that present Masai? That pick was terrible. He would have been there in the 2nd round if we liked him that much…
He’s a replacement for Rudy Fernandez I think. Spark plug, slasher type of player with great athleticism. I think he fits the framework of this team, which is running the fast break. Obviously he probably needs to work on shooting a little, but I don’t hate this pick. Biyombo/Batum/French nation are all pretty high on this kid.
#20 Denver Nuggets select Evan Fournier
* Grade: F
What the heck happened Denver? Two years in a row they picked good stats picks. With Will Barton on the board they selected Evan Fournier they picked a player with terrible numbers from France! I was so excited with Barton on the board and this was just depressing.
from wages of win
methinks this dude has trade written all over him
either he’s gettin traded as part of a deal and another team wanted him as part of the deal
or we’re going to trade somebody and drafted him to fill out the roster knowing he needs to develop
i wouldnt sleep on the fact that the warriors did draft the nc guy at 7
just guessing though
