BREAKING: Nuggets amnesty Chris Andersen, sign Anthony Randolph

According to Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post, the Nuggets have decided to use their lone amnesty provision on Chris “Birdman” Andersen and will sign free agent forward, Anthony Randolph, in his place. According to Yahoo!Sports’ Marc J. Spears, Randolph’s contract is a three-year deal worth $6 million total. If true, this is a steal. More information and analysis will be posted as news trickles in. As it stands this appears to be an excellent move by the Nuggets and one that will make our colleague Jeremy very, very pleased.

If it is for $6 million I’m all for the move even if it means they didn’t open up a roster spot for Miller. Does this mean we’ll see Stone waived to open that spot?

  • Eddi0

Great move, not sure which I like better though…losing Bird or gaining AR??? Jeremy, what’s the prediction on the next move? We have one too many players if/when we sign Q Miller.

  • Poz_303

    What can one say?

In Masai we trust. Love the move.

Can anyone boast a front line with such athletic ability? We upgrade our PF depth and save close to 3 million off our cap space for the next two years.

  • Slurm

Good move, but we still need to sign Miller.

  • tommy

Agree we need to sign miller somehow…

Good signing of Randolph, look at this video from a few years ago, boys got hops!

Nice video! He looks like a Kenneth Faried type almost. Imagine having Faried come out of the game only to be replaced by Faried-Lite.

  • CJP32

Sad to see the Birdman go, but his time here was up. I do hope he gets to play somewhere in the NBA again soon.

AR is a great pickup for 2 mil a year, he’s long, can rebound and block shots. In April last year for the Wolves, he averaged 10.9 pts, 5.2 rebs and 2.3 blks. Along with McGee and Brewer, they would be the longest/skinniest frontcourt in the NBA!

    • DH

Maybe some day, we’ll see a lineup with McGee, Randolph, Quincy Miller, Brewer, and Founier (with Izzy coming off the bench, of course). That would be the “All Toothpick” team.

  • Gerardo

Great pickup and at 2 million a year?????? What a steal! We are so loaded we are by far the deepest team in the NBA!!!!

  • Nuggfan5

Nuggs could go 12 deep every night with this signing! Lol. Looks like Big Al could see reduced minutes when he’s recovered from surgery with Chandler and Randolph coming in and if Gallo can stay healthy plus Faried getting more minutes.

    • LT

only deep is GK uses it. GK will still use the 2 PG lineup for 15-20 minutes a game so it really doesnt matter how deep we are. Being too deep with talent ranging from 3-7 on any roster is not good enoughto win a championship. we need a #1 that we can count on day in and day out

      • Landry

Glad to see your faith in our main man, Ty Lawson.

  • Tyler

I am very saddened to see Birdman go. He had such a great story life in his career with Denver. He was and will always be a fan favorite. But in other notes, great news that we got Anthony Randolph. Now we just need to sign Quincy.

  • Mike K

Love this move. You HAD to know that Masai was up to something by saying virtually nothing. They will find a way to sign Q Miller. My guess is Stone’s injury gives them an out.

  • DH

Wow! I think I need to see someone confirm those salary numbers before I get too excited, though. $2M/year is ridiculously low for someone with his size and athleticism.

I wonder if this will light a fire under McGee to accept the Nugs’ offer. He has to be thinking that the Nuggets now have a fall-back plan if he doesn’t sign – since they added another (much, much cheaper) young, athletic big man to the roster. I think we will see him sign soon.

If Masai really has the smarts and nerve, he should now lower Javale’s offer. Javale is over-priced at 10 mil per year and there is no guarantee that he’ll improve much next season. Unless Javale can prove his worth on the court, otherwise, he can become a major distraction in the locker room if he becomes the highest paid Nugget.

        Tienes toda la razon

  • Aaron

Great Steal! Feel Bad To See Q. Miller Or Stone Leave Tho. Deepest NBA Team Rite Now!!!

  • Ban

Nuggets will be a really fun, young team that can throw a ton of talented bodies at opponents at altitude…that’s all. Enjoy.

Not sure where it’s all headed basketball-wise other than that. Entertaining playoff team that is a second round out at best. Though if a superstar ever actually wants to play in Denver, the Nuggets should have more trade assets than anyone else to accomplish some kind of trade…

  • Joshua

I like that we amnestied Birdman. The one thing that I wish would happen though would be to try a Houston approach and combine 3-4 quality players and go for an all-star/ go to guy. We honestly are ‘too deep’ with 2-3 good players deep at every position. Somebody like Eric Gordon who’s unhappy in NO would be great to trade for. Signing Anthony Randolf seems like we have more flexibility now to make trades.

  • mitchell

so does this mean that big al and chandler would be a package headed out of denver in a trade?

  • Landry

Alright, so now we have depth that anybody could dream of. We have vets, knuckleheads, sprinters, dunkers, and 3 point shooters to boot. Now we can have a defensive line-up to compensate for the defensively challenged Andre Miller. With Randolph we can be a superior rebounder than Harrington against Pau Gasol. So now we can have

Ty Lawsome, Andre Miller, Anthony Randolph(good passer), Kenneth Faried, and Javale McGeezie.

Rebounding disadvantage averted. Who wants to try and drive against these guys? Additionally, we can get similar playmaking ability from Randolph with the same height and more physicality than Gallo. So we can have our play-making line-up of

Ty Lawsome, J-Ham, Gallo, Harrington, and Randolph who can all score, run the floor, and hit jumpers.

Because of Randolph’s strength he can take on centers and Big Al no longer has to play the 5 anymore. GK can have 3 bodies at the big positions and still disrespect the rookies.

PG Ty, Andre, (Stoned is hurt..)
SG AAA, J-Ham(Hopefully he plays this year)
    SF Gallo, Chandler, Brewer
    PF Faried, Harrington, Randolph(Star potential)
    C McGee(fingers crossed) Mozgov, Koufos

Human victory cigars- Q.Miller and Evan Fournier

Roster of 15, Houston wishes they had our assets. We can afford injuries to our main guys of Ty, AAA, Gallo, Harrington, and Mozgov, all of whom have shown to be injury prone over a season. Meanwhile Faried, McGee, A. Miller, and a breaking out party for J-Ham can cover the starting line-up and Randolph is a more than capable back up PF. So I’m glad we stayed true to our RUN philosophy over both draft day and FA.

  • bayesk

The Andre Miller signing makes more sense now; every game, without fail, the announcers state that he’s the best lob man in the league. And not just our homers, but TNT and ESPN as well. I dream of many more plays like the half-court, practically no-look, gather and toss in one step laser-precise oop to McGee…..but now he’s got a platoon of hands above the rim. Show Ty the tricks, Andre! Pass on the gift to the next generation!

  • Woobly o Balls

Denver is the new Lob City – Kenny, Javeezy, Randolph and Brewer with Dre chucking it up there

This is a GREAT MOVE! An absolute steal. And for those who were shattered about passing on PJIII (including myself) we now have our own version.

I’m now worried this means the end for Stone or Q Miller (surely Masai wouldn’t let him go).

Hopefully we trade someone like KK now to open up that roster spot for Quincy

    In Masai we trust…

Hello, I’m very pleased to see your article, the content you write is very interesting. Recently, I also trying to learn to write, I hope to have the oppotunity to ask your advice.

Un equipo con andre randolph y Al me da pánico en el baloncesto moderno sin defensa no hay nada y estos 3 jugadores son muy malos defensores.

  • Zack

Well if this is true about Randolph signing for 3 yrs, $6 million then I am a very happy Nuggets fan. This is another great deal for the Nuggets. Unfortunately, I think Stone is gonna get cut to make room for Q Miller. Quincy absolutely needs to be on this team, but I was hoping we could swing some sort of 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 trade to open up a roster spot for him.

Great, underrated signing of Anthony Randolph!

  • http://roundballminingcompany.com Mark from Charlotte

    Great move MASAI…………………………

  • Trevor

Randolph will be a good 12th man. I hope they are able to open up a roster spot for Miller.

    • Zack

Me too. Gotta get Q Miller signed.

  • mitchell

all these people bummed about stone getting cut, all i have to say is… really? i mean sure he has potential, but if he ever averages more than 15 minutes a game in the league i will buy every rmc reader tickets to a nuggets home game. losing the least talented man on the squad (its harsh but its true) wont be the end of the world. with birdman gone its only a matter of time before stone goes with him. thanks for playing, he was fun to watch and discuss but at this point keeping his roster spot is a liability.

    • Peter

False, Julyan Stone is a young energetic point guard that is only getting better and had no room for minutes behind Ty lawson, a top ten point guard, and Andre Miller, arguably the best back up point guard in the league. He probably would have been a top 5 point guard in this years draft according to George Karl. Get your facts straight.

  • Roundball Bill

Love this move! Getting rid of Bird? Awesome! Signing Randolph? Awesome!! Who is gonna see minutes with this loaded roster? Who knows!!!
