Pickaxe Pulse for March 10, 2013

Taking the pulse of the Nuggets every weekend

Current record: 42-22

Last week: 4-0 (3-0 home, 1-0 road)

Current playoff seed: #5, 1.5 games behind #4 Memphis, 2 games behind #3 LA Clippers, and 7 games ahead of #6 Golden State

The Nuggets picked up a potentially important playoff tiebreaker by defeating the Clippers to take the season series 2-1.  The team has won 8 in a row overall, and 13 straight home games.  Danilo Gallinari appears fully recovered, averaging 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists over his last 3 games.  Ty Lawson, named Western Conference player of the week at the start of last week, averaged 24 points and 7 assists in this week’s games.  Corey Brewer continues to struggle on three point shots, making only one of eight attempts over the same timespan.

This week’s games: Monday at Phoenix, Wednesday vs Knicks, Friday vs Memphis

GO NUGS! Very Important game this week against memphis at home!

I said at the beginning of the season it was going to take a little time for this group to come together. They have a great coach in GK who has them playing great as a team, they maturing right before our eyes. When one or two guys are down, a team mate picks up the slack. They’ve proved they can beat the best teams in the league. If they on keep their head on straight, nobody will want to face them in the playoffs. Disability keeps me from being able to watch the games but I’ve listen to the call on radio many times throughout the season and they have not disappointed. Proud to be a Nuggets fan. Rooting for three more W’s this week. Go Nuggets!

    Love this comment!

We don’t have a tie breaker over the clippers. They will be winning their division. That’s the first tie breaker

That is only true if it is more that two teams tied for the same spot. Two way ties are decided as follows:
      1. Results of games against each other.

      2. Better winning percentage within own division (only if tied teams are in same division).

      3. Better winning percentage against teams in own conference.

      4. Better winning percentage against playoff opponents in own conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).

      5. Better winning percentage against playoff opponents in opposite conference (including teams that finished the regular season tied for a playoff position).

      6. Better point differential between offense and defense.

Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 seed, but they’re NOT guaranteed home court. Home court is determined by the tiebreakers 86ElwayFan posted.

      From http://www.nba.com/standings/playoff_picture.html
“Teams 1 to 4 in each conference are the three division winners and the team with the next best regular-season record”
“d. Home Court Advantage:For purposes of home court advantage, ties will be broken pursuant to the procedures used for breaking two-team ties for playoff position.”

So if the Grizz finish third, the Clippers would be given the 4 spot (this rule is separate from tiebreakers), but the Nuggets could still have home court advantage in the series (either by having a better record, or a tied record and the h2h tiebreaker.)

I feel like the Nuggets showed me something this week. It was a perfect week for a letdown and they stayed strong and pulled out the 4-0 when I figured they’d take at least one loss and feared 3 losses.

They definitely aren’t the Nuggets team of last year. Here’s hoping

Home court will end up determining whether the Nuggets get tossed in the first round, or end up in the WCF. This Head to Head game against Memphis this week may be the biggest game of their year, to date. Here’s to staying focused, playing fast, and counting on eachother!!

    Go Nuggs!
