Stone signs with Raptors

According to Yahoo!Sports.com’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Denver Nuggets free agent Julyan Stone has reached an agreement with the Toronto Raptors on a two-year contract. The second year of the deal is a team option. This concludes Stone’s short tenure in Denver where he was largely viewed as defensive-minded fan favorite at point guard. Stone was one of the more polite players on the roster the last several years and certainly one of the more driven; however, injuries kept him from ever seeing the type of playing time he likely deserved. Woj is reporting he’ll compete for the backup point guard position in Toronto.

What We Can Learn From The Kosta Koufos Trade

When the Nuggets traded Kosta Koufos on draft night it clearly signaled that they felt it was time to turn over the starting job to JaVale McGee.

But it also signaled something else, a belief that they have and one that in the end may come back to hurt them.

It signaled that they, like plenty of other teams see potential more in physical gifts than in mental ones.

Deal or no deal: Andre Iguodala rumors

As day two of free agency comes to a close, the rumors about free agent Andre Iguodala continue to fly.

Early in the day, @NuggetsTrades and others tweeted “The #Nuggets have offered Andre Iguodala a 5 year 63 million dollar contract”.

Later, @WojYahooNBA gave us this series of tweets over the course of about three hours:

“Sacramento is offering free agent Andre Iguodala a four year, approximately $56 million contract, league sources tell Y! Sports.”

“As USA Today reported, source tells Y! that Sacramento has withdrawn its four-year, $56 million offer from Denver free agent Andre Iguodala.”

“Denver’s shown no inclination to match $14M per offer, and Iguodala wasn’t ready to tell the Kings ‘Yes,” sources tell Y! So, Kings bailed.”

“It is still very possible Iguodala and Nuggets can reach agreement on deal, sources tell Y! For now, Iguodala may keep scouring the market.”

Stay tuned.

What was lost and gained in the Koufos trade

In the midst of draft day fever, the Denver Nuggets almost inconspicuously swung a trade to ship out the starting center of their 57 win team. They acquired Memphis Grizzlies forward Darrell Arthur and the rights to the 55th pick, which turned out to be the rather unfortunately named Joffery Lauvergne.

2013 salary cap and luxury tax status

The NBA salary cap is projected to be $58.6 million for the 2013-14 season. The Nuggets currently have 10 players with guaranteed contracts totaling $51.3 million: Lawson, McGee, Gallinari, Chandler, A. Miller, Arthur, Randolph, Fournier, Faried, and Hamilton. Quincy Miller also has a partial guarantee of $150 thousand. Due to cap holds for free agents, the Nuggets will be treated as a team over the salary cap and can therefore only sign players using the following methods:

5-on-5: Draft night effects and beyond

On June 27, Nuggets fans got their first up-close glimpse of how the Nuggets’ front office would operate with Tim Connelly at the helm. Like past drafts, the Nuggets were active. They traded down from the 27th pick to ultimately select Erick Green and sent last year’s starting center to Memphis for a package that included stretch-four, Darrell Arthur. In the end it was a busy night with implications that could be felt for years, which is exactly what we hope break down in our latest 5-0n-5. As always, we encourage you to play along by answering the questions we posed to our writers in the comments section below.
