Faried, but not Lawson, chosen for initial Team USA roster

Last June, Kenneth Faried and Ty Lawson had the honor of being invited to participate in the U.S. men’s national basketball team mini-camp for four days in Las Vegas.

Today, only one of them, Faried, made the cut for the initial roster. Still, there may yet be hope for Lawson to get another shot. According to NBA.com:

USA Basketball announced today 28 players have been selected for the 2014-2016 USA Men’s National Team pool, from which the 2014 USA World Championship Team and, if the U.S. qualifies, the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team will be selected. The USA National Team pool will be fluid; USA Basketball Chairman and National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo may add athletes at any time.

Given Faried’s somewhat rocky season and the All-Star buzz surrounding Lawson, these results seem somewhat counterintuitive. Perhaps Colangelo feels that Faried is a better fit for the international game, or that he simply needs a complimentary player with Kenneth’s particular skill set. Whatever the case may be, this is exciting news for the Manimal, and we can only hope that Lawson will be brought back into the Team USA fold at a later date.

does this mean his trade value goes up some 😉

Does this mean based on Faried’s numbers that team USA is in big trouble?

  • joefresco

It actually makes a lot of sense due to Faried’s energy and the ability of that to impact a game.

I love Manimal but this is his worst year of playing yet.
