The NBA has announced that Chauncey Billups has been awarded the sportsmanship award for the Northwest Division. Billups was voted the winner by a seven member panel of former players and is now eligible for the league wide award that will be voted on by players after the season. The other divisional winners were Ray Allen of Boston, Antonio McDyess of Detroit, Antawn Jamison of Washington, Ronny Turiaf of Golden State and Michael Finley of San Antonio.
Every team nominates one player for consideration and the award is based on ethical behavior, fair play and integrity which are keys to sportsmanship at all levels of basketball. The league seeks to promote those ideals on the floor and through their NBA Cares program.
