Aaron Afflalo is an Elite Defender
***
Consider the recent evidence:
11/13/2009 – Kobe Bryant – 7/17, 4 turnovers, 19 points. ZERO points in the second half.
11/17/2009 – Belinelli/Weems – 11/25, 3 turnovers, 28 points combined, +/- of -19.
11/21/2009 – John Salmons – 2/11, 1 turnover, 5 points in 28 minutes of play.
11/24/2009 – Chris Douglas-Roberts – 1/6, 3 turnovers, 5 fouls, 4 points in 30m of play. Had averaged 27.3 in the previous 3 games.
Afflalo also had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal and block last night in the second rout of the Nets.
Afflalo has the length and the tenacity to bother ANY player and he hustles as hard as (if not harder) than Renaldo Balkman. He fights over every screen, bulls through every pick, constantly hangs around the offensive basket, works to create his own shot and runs the break.
What more could you ask from your starting SG? He knows he isn’t a primary scoring option and is okay with that. His stellar defense is amazing, and really a primary reason (in my opinion) why the Nuggets have been able to look so dominant in the first part of this season. Put him on the other team’s best SG/SF and he will just lock them down.
Say it with me now: Dahntay WHO?
I love, Aaron Afflalo, as an all around above average player. I was happy to see him come to Denver. I said the day of the trade, this is a very consistant player the Nuggets are getting. I love his defense, in comparrison to the rest of the no defense Nuggets, (except Kenyon on most occasions when he is healty) his defense is far more intense than anyone elses. With the said I cannot and will not ever say Dahntay WHO??? For this reason and this reason alone. EDGE!!!!. I did not recognize the Nuggets defensive team in this years playoffs (2010). It is not the same team that took the Lakers to the brink in the 2010 Western Conference Finals. We could use the excuse that George was not there, and I think there is a little to that (as unfortunate as that is), but even through the regular season when George was there that same EDGE was not present in the Nuggets Defense. Do not ask me how it happens, but there are certain players, that when they play, what they offer is contagious with the other players. With Dahntay Jones it was the Defense. Mark my words, the Nuggets defensively are not the same team without him. When they lost him to free agency I mentioned the Nuggets will not get close to the Western Conference Finals. Yes there were other mitigating factors to keep in mind about how the Nuggets exited this years playoffs. For me, I do not care about them. The only thing I know is defense is about HEART, having the heart to play it on every possesion. That was seen in the Nuggets playoff run last year. This year they looked like they were sleep walking. Sleep walking through the season then sleep walking in the first round against Utah. Maybe Adrian Dantley was in over his head. My problem is Adrain Dantley cannot make the players PLAY DEFENSE. That is up to each individual player. Watch the games again if you do not agree with what I am saying. The difference in this year from last year is this. Every possesion the Nuggets had in the Utah series they had to claw, fight, and work to hard for a mediocre shot. All this while the Jazz where in a layup drill. That was not the same Nuggets defensive intensity as last year. I as I am sure the rest of you are disappointed in this season. We as Nuggets fans will have more of the same this comming year is the Nuggets fail to play Defense with all their Heart. That is soley upon each individual player. Not the Coaches, and it most certainly is not on the fans.
Nugs. should sign Shack. Just what they need 20 minutes a game clog the middle and rebound. Nice fit
