2011-12 Game 3: Denver Nuggets 102 Portland Trailblazers 111

Box Score | Highlights

The Nuggets played the first of what will undoubtedly be many ugly games in Portland tonight. It was a messy affair from the start, dominated by fouls, turnovers and questionable shot selection. Ultimately the game came down to a 2-minute stretch in which the tougher, more composed Blazers held it together and came out on top.

Nuggets striking match for Forbes [UPDATE: Rudy Fernandez traded to Denver]

HoopsHype’s Raul Barrigon is reporting the Nuggets are leaning towards matching the Raptors contract offer for Gary Forbes. Meanwhile, Anthony Carter, who recently chose Toronto over Denver as his next one-year destination is petitioning for the Nuggets not to match. Maybe next time he asks to use our practice gym post-lockout, we’ll just slam the door in his face. (more…)

Nuggets News: Post-lockout edition

Early Saturday morning news broke that the NBA lockout has finally concluded after 149 days of fierce negotiations. Though the deal has yet to be finalized, a “handshake” agreement is said to have been reached between the owners and players. Breaking down ESPN’s #NBArank of the Denver Nuggets: Part 1

ESPN recently concluded an extremely arduous process of codifying the NBA’s best 500 players. Our fellow TrueHoop family was highly involved in the process, sending in ballots, backing up their claims in the 5-on-5 series and explaining how certain elements weighed more heavily in their decision-making via video interviews which aired on the front page of the four-letter network’s website this past week. From our perspective — being a proud member of the TrueHoop Network — we feel entitled to give a Carmelo Anthony-like tip-of-the-hat to ourselves for all of our efforts, as ranking 500 different players is not an easy task; however, we conversely feel that it is our job to specifically analyze those players we know best, and determine if their individual Top 500 rankings are accurate in order to further understand how we can get better for next year. Including current free agents, the Denver Nuggets saw a whopping 16 players make their way to the #NBArank list. Whether they managed to land in the right spot is up for debate. In Part 1 of this series we’ll take a look at the Nuggets who landed outside of the Top 100. (more…)

Nene forces Nuggets to take option of insecurity

Thursday, the deadline for Nene to re-sign with the Denver Nuggets officially expired and no deal was reached. Though Masai Ujiri and the rest of Nuggets’ management feverishly attempted to cajole Nene into guaranteeing his services to the Nuggets organization for another handful of years similar to the deal he struck back in 2006, apparently Nene was not moved. Many believe this places the Nuggets in a somewhat precarious trench sandwiched between the grounds of stability and a total rebuilding of the franchise — at least until a new collective bargaining agreement is realized — but is it possible that this maxim is nothing more than an ostensible notion? Could the Nuggets be just fine without Nene’s services? Or will losing Nene force the Nuggets to officially re-build? Most importantly, by forgoing the opportunity to extend his career with the Nuggets, what exactly did Nene say? (more…)
