Jason Quick of the Oregonian has a great article tracing Nate McMillian’s transformation from a hard nosed drill sergeant when he took over a team comprised of players like Zach Randolph and Darius Miles to a coach who allows his players to have a say in how the team is managed.
I will say two things. To be a drill sergeant you have to have the full support of the front office and to be a coach that can say the team belongs to the players the front office has to put together a roster comprised of dedicated high character players that value winning over everything else.
Organizations win championships and right now the Blazers’ organization looks like a championship operation.
